RIP Spruce
The tradition of having a Christmas three stretches back to the 18th century and Germany. The first known Christmas three in Sweden is from 1741. Every year approximately 3 million trees are being sold in Sweden. The trees are 8-10 years old and after their service in the household for 5-20 days they are tossed away and turned into energy. The environmental impact of this tradition is large. Not only because of transportation but also because of the lack of biodiversity on the cultivated fields where the trees are grown. “RIP Spruce ” is created to celebrate the short lives of these trees. When their household service is done the tree is hung up in the structure. As more trees are being hung up the more complex the mace gets. Then the trees looses it´s spruce needles the mace turns more and more see through, transforming it over time.
